My thoughts on Worcs. Part ONE

World Off-Road Championship Series.

My thoughts on worcs has differed from year to year. From winning a Pro-am race to totally given up on off-road. Ive had a rocky relationship with off-road racing.

First of all Its gnarly. Really gnarly. With long lap times and a 1.5 hour long pro race its crazy. The competition is the best in the world. For the past 3 years the championship has gone down to the last race. No other racing in the USA has competition like worcs. Its also really family friendly racing. Ages from 5 years old to 55 years old. You can race your 4×4 or your trx450. You can sign up early online, and everyone that works of worcs is good people.

The whole weekend is an adventure. Get there thursday night. Most likely the track is in some hot dusty out of the way place. Set up camp friday morning. Go out for mx practice. I know mx practice for an off-road race? I don’t get it. After practice prep the bike. Sign up for a Worcs membership and your classes. Bring some KY because you are going to need it. Eat a lot and get a good nights sleep.

In the morning they have these races called “unclassified”. Its a race that you pay $30? (I cant find the price on the website might be $20) But its not really a race its just practice.(its on the full off-road course) Finish the “practice” that you payed for, go back and get ready for your race.

Your race, If you race A/B/c you race for 50 mins about 4-7 laps. Now the pros have a 60 min practice at 1:25. Sleep, eat repeat on sunday for the amateurs, and the pro’s have a 90 min race on sunday.

The pro class and WTF happened to the most awesome rumor ever……… Now the rumor was the pro class would go from one 2 hour race to two 1 hour races. One on saturday, one on sunday. This would of made it more of a sprint type racing. AKA better racing. Less broken bikes/less DNF’s. Now they did go one step in the right direction by lowering the time but I still think the two moto format would be better.

I will do a part 2 next week after round one of the 2011 series kicks off this weekend in taft CA.
